Do affirmations work?
There is a common misperception that affirmations don’t work. We actually agree….but only if your expectation is that all you have to do is say “I have a million dollars” or “I am completely healthy” and poof it comes true. While that would be nice, it’s just not how they work.
How do positive affirmations work?
Positive affirmations help you to instill the subconscious thought patterns necessary to make positive changes in your life. When you use affirmations repeatedly by reading, listening to, or saying them often, they become ingrained into the subconscious mind. Once in the subconscious mind, you naturally begin to think, feel, and act in ways that align with you want in your life.
Using positive affirmations also helps:

- set your intentions - affirmations can help you to identify what it is that you want for yourself - how you want to feel, be, and live
- remind you of your intentions - we have designed our affirmation card small enough to be hung up around your home so that they are in your face on a daily basis to remind you of your intentions and also to help instill these ideas into the deeper, subconscious mind
- identify thought patterns that are keeping you from making changes - when you use positive affirmations, you may notice other thoughts that contradict the affirmation - using affirmations, guided meditation, and EFT Tapping all help to reverse and override those contradictory thoughts
Advertising for the Soul
Advertising uses repetition to continuously tell you why you should buy a product so that one day you ultimately take action and buy it. And the advertising industry is a billion-dollar business for one reason only - it works.
Affirmations work in a similar way. Affirmations are statements about how you want to feel, be and live. When used repetitively, they begin to influence your behaviors in the same way that advertisers influence you to buy a product. Unlike advertising, when using affirmations, you are in total control of what you want to be advertised to yourself.
Our affirmation cards are designed small so that you can hang them up around your home, office, car, etc. to surround yourself on a daily basis. Even when you stop noticing them on a conscious level, your subconscious sees them. Think about how many times that idea is impressed on your mind if it’s hanging on the bathroom mirror. Dozens of times per week and hundreds of times per year. All you have to do is hang them up and your mind will do the rest - just like advertising.

Using affirmations does NOT mean avoiding unpleasant emotions
Life is full of challenging moments that can cause us to feel sadness, anger, grief, and fear. It’s normal, natural and important to feel those feelings. What we are addressing with affirmations is the constant negative and self-defeating thoughts that are inhibiting us from feeling, being or living the way we want. Affirmations restore and embed positive thinking and feeling to support you in living your best life imagined. Using them is an act of self-love.
How to create an effective affirmation?
There are some technical aspects to how you create an affirmation so that it is most effective. The goal of the affirmation is to get the subconscious mind to adopt it as a belief so that you will feel, behave and live according to the belief. The subconscious mind is very literal and behaves like a young child around 7-8 years old.
In order to be effective, follow these simple rules:
- keep it in the present tense
- state it in the positive and avoid words like “can’t”, “won’t”, “don’t"
- make it believable
- keep it simple and avoid long, complicated sentences
What affirmations are right for you?
Not every affirmation will feel right for you, so the first step is to create or find affirmations that give you that “ah-ha” feeling - the ones that make you feel excited, encouraged or supported. Get them in your face on a daily basis by hanging them up anywhere and everywhere - on your wall, your computer, your refrigerator, your mirror, your car, etc. Contemplate on them. Journal about them. Record them and listen to them often. Write them over and over again consecutively. Spend time daydreaming that they are true for you. The point is to infuse them in every way possible. Repetition is the key!
Affirmations are just one tool, but there are more...
The products that we make here at SoulStarter, like our Affirmation Cards and Guided Meditations, are designed to work as stand-alone tools, but also complement and support other efforts that you may be using like using a therapist, personal coach, program, etc. We encourage you to use guided meditation along with affirmations to help infuse the positive ideas deep into your subconscious mind. And if you aren't noticing results, it likely means that there are deeper subconscious and/or energetic blocks that need to be addressed. EFT Tapping is a great tool clearing these blocks.
