What is guided meditation?

Guided meditation is a form of meditation where a person’s voice guides you into a meditative state. For those who have been put off by the idea of silent or mindfulness meditation, guided meditation is a great alternative because all you have to do is simply listen. Guided Meditation is unique in that it fills the mind with positive ideas and imagery to support you in whatever it is you are working towards - stress reduction, better sleep, weight-loss, support for cancer treatment, etc.

When you use guided meditation on a regular basis, the positive ideas take hold deep within the subconscious mind and begin to align your thoughts and emotions with your goals. You literally begin to create positive changes from the inside out. In addition to it feeling pleasant, guided meditation also causes physiological changes to occur in the body. The fact that the body experiences these physical changes during meditation is a clear example of the mind-body connection. This means that both the mind and body are impacted by meditation.

In recent years, scientific research has discovered the many physical and emotional benefits to meditating including:

  • Stress reduction
  • Improved concentration
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Reduction of Anxiety
  • Reduction of Depression
  • Reduced symptoms of PTSD
  • Increased creativity
  • Increased patience

How is guided meditation different from other forms of meditation?

All types of meditation, including guided meditation, help reduce stress which is in itself worthy of taking up any form of meditation. However, there is an important aspect specific to guided meditation that makes it unique from other forms of meditation. When one is in a meditative state, the doorway to the subconscious mind is open allowing it to be more receptive to suggestions. Guided meditation uses this opportunity to program positive ideas into the subconscious mind to support you in whatever it is you are wanting to feel, be or create.

What types of issues can guided meditation help with?

Almost anything that you want to change about your life can be supported with guided meditation because it works directly with the part of the mind that is guiding your thoughts, beliefs and feelings. Some examples are:

  • stress relief
  • anxiety reduction
  • overcoming fears and phobias
  • improved sleep
  • support for dealing with a cancer diagnosis or other serious illness
  • increasing confidence and self-esteem
  • losing weight and increasing overall wellness
  • improved athletic performance
  • forgiveness and letting go of the past
  • preparing for childbirth
  • spiritual connection
  • and so much more

How quickly does guided meditation create change?

If you are simply looking to feel more relaxed or get help with sleeping, then you can certainly receive an instantaneous benefit using a guided meditation. But, if you want to change careers, beat a disease or lose weight, then it will obviously take some time. The meditations help you to plant the seeds of change and with repeated use, they fertilize and nurture those seeds until they have taken root. The amount of time it takes to see a big change is different for everyone. The good news is that while you are working on making positive changes, you are also receiving perhaps one of the greatest benefits of all from guided meditation - relaxation and stress reduction.

Life itself is also a transformer in that the repetition of life experiences and lessons learned allow us to change and grow. But using tools like guided meditation and affirmations can speed up the process and reduce the amount of time, energy and pain that we must go through to reach the same goal.

How do you meditate with guided meditations?

The beauty and simplicity of guided meditation is that it is incredibly easy to do and it feels really good. For some people, it may take a few sessions before they can fully relax and receive all the benefits. All you have to do is get comfortable, stop all other activities and take time to listen. Even if you fall asleep during the meditation - your mind is still receiving the messages. Headphones are recommended, but not required.

Who should use guided meditation?

Meditation is for anyone who wants to improve their physical and emotional well-being. Guided meditations that target a specific issue or goal like losing weight or healing an illness are made specifically for people who are working on those particular issues.

How often should you use guided meditation?

No matter how often you use guided meditation, there is always a benefit, but using guided meditation at least once a day is ideal or at least a few times per week. One key component to using guided meditation successfully is repetition. The more often you listen to a guided meditation, the more powerful the results. However, the benefits are there whenever you do listen so if you find that a few times per week works best or you get off track and don’t do it for a while, it’s okay - just start again.

How are SoulStarter's guided meditations different from others?

There are many guided meditations out there in the world. Almost all of them offer the listener an opportunity to relax, be present and connect with themselves which is a truly wonderful benefit to anyone. However, in order to create specific changes to your normal, waking life outside of the time you are actually meditating, guided meditations must be designed to target and influence the subconscious mind. Our guided meditations contain imagery and suggestions that target the subconscious and support you in reaching your goals.
